The Bailey Legacy - Gen 2 Arrives!

Intro * Gen 1

When we last left Violet and Adam, Violet's gas pains turned out to be labor pains. Gen 2 was about to make its way into Veronaville...

After much screaming and plumbbob-splitting, Adam sighed in relief to see a healthy baby fall from the sky into Violet's arms. And what a cute baby...
"It's a boy," Violet breathed dreamily.
And what a cute baby boy he was.
Adam didn't ask why she kept murmuring something about showing her father and proving him wrong.

So Nicholas Bailey was born into the world, and his parents loved him very much even if they were still new at this parenting thing.

Like many other new parents, they often forgot that babies don't belong on the floor.

And as Nicholas reached toddlerhood, Violet again grew sick in the mornings and found her belly growing larger. More promotions had ensured they would be able to afford another child, even if money would be tight.

Nicholas grew into a sturdy child, if a slightly funny-looking child, and he stared off into space often thinking about being a big brother.

This pregnancy was also relatively easy on Violet - hell, it made her downright playful sometimes. She and Adam often spent time with their best friend Jessie, Smustling well into the night.

With much anticipation, their second child was born, and they named their little princess Madeline. With Adam's new promotion, they were able to hire a nanny so Violet could return to work and bank her vacation days. Her dedication to the military was rewarded with another promotion, and Violet soon began to realize that this might be more than just a passing job to her.

She really enjoyed her job, though she was always happy to come home to her children.
The extra money rolling in, plus a really large bonus that Adam received, allowed for additional renovation to the family house. It was no longer as cramped. The kids got their own larger bedroom and a study was added on.

And they needed the extra space, because the nursery was about to be occupied again.

Madeline grew through toddlerhood and into a rather ... unique looking child. Violet found herself studying her children, and more often than not pitying Madeline. She was a smart child, and quite friendly, but...well, she wasn't a very pretty child at all.

Violet's third pregnancy was extremely rough on her. No matter how much she tried to rest, she just couldn't seem to find the energy to keep up with herself let alone the kids. If it weren't for the nanny... let's just say things wouldn't have gone well for the Bailey family. In her quest to build up a larger nest egg and build a grander house, Violet once passed clean out while harvesting the money tree garden.

Nicholas grew awkwardly into his teenage years immediately after Madeline entered her childhood.

While cleaning up after Nicholas' birthday party, the trash compactor malfunctioned. Being a handy sort of man, Adam tried to fix the machine to save money on a repairman.
His attempt didn't go so good. He survived the electrocution, but the stress sent Violet into a painful labor right there in the kitchen.

With one final plumbbob-shattering push, their third child fell into Violet's arms. An exhausted Violet named her Michaela, set her on the floor, and promptly passed out on the couch.

"Hey, there's a baby on the floor!"
(sigh)

Too soon, Madeline grew into her teenage years even more awkwardly than her brother. Violet could only stare, sure that Madeline had inherited her looks from Adam's side of the family.

Madeline turned out to be a troublesome teen, always sneaking out and using a fake ID to get into nightclubs. She also developed an odd interest in sumo wrestling, which she was pleased to talk about all the time.

With her sister out cavorting and her brother working hard in his after-school job, Michaela gracefully entered her childhood years. It was a quiet affair with just her parents, but she liked that just fine. Her sister annoyed her, and she was proud of her brother working so hard AND going to school. Plus he brought home a new video game for her birthday, so she easily forgave him for not being there when she blew out the candles.

Michaela was the smartest child of the bunch and happily spent her time after school studying and playing chess.
(YAY stuck Smart Milk!)
She also spent a lot of time thinking about what she wanted to be when she grew up. Her parents weren't thrilled when she dismantled her toys to see how they worked, but her beloved brother Nicholas always laughed and bought her new toys.

By the time she became a teenager, Michaela knew two things: she wanted to have lots of money like her big brother, and she wanted to be a scientist. She didn't much care about the whole dating thing, like her sister did, but she did know that the boys at school asked her out a whole lot.

Michaela got a job in the local lab as soon as she could, and happily scrubbed test tubes knowing that it would look good on her resume.
One day, though, she met Edward. Edward was well-known in Veronaville for being a bigshot businessman, but Michaela liked him for his bright blond hair and his skill at the chessboard. She pined for him, counting the days until she was an adult and could maybe go on a date with him.

As the days passed, Michaela's feelings for Edward didn't wane. She invited him over to play chess often, and on her 18th birthday she celebrated by sharing her first kiss with him.

After Adam had his turn at blowing out the candles on his cake...

Michaela impetuously got down on one knee and proposed to Edward.

Her mother had sat down for a "talk" with her a couple years ago, explaining her formative years and the promise she'd made herself long ago. When she wasn't scrubbing test tubes, Michaela would roam the house she loved, knowing it would be her duty to continue to improve it for her children, and all the children yet to come in the Bailey family. She imagined adding a second floor, building a swimming pool, adding more space, and buying a nice car to replace her parents' old minivan. She couldn't imagine a father who didn't love her, so she promised her mother she would carry on the legacy.

With the addition of Edward's income, not to mention the savings he'd brought, Michaela was thrilled to suggest to her mother a second floor addition and a swimming pool.

Violet and Adam shared a quiet moment as everyone celebrated Michaela's engagement, proud of their daughter and knowing everything would be okay. Violet, Adam and Michaela often enjoyed standing in the front yard, just looking at their home and imagining the future.

As the days wore on and the wedding plans hit full swing, Violet knew she was getting older. She easily settled into her aging body and made it a point to stay in shape. She was a General now, the best she could be, and she wanted to continue working as long as possible. They had a lovely house and lots of nice things, but Violet wanted nothing more than to build a nest egg to help her children along.

Edward settled into life with the Baileys, with a few pitfalls here and there. Once he misunderstood the instructions on the Thinking Cap and woke up hours later dazed and disoriented with Madeline's frightening eyes staring worriedly at him. Knowing her "friendly" nature with all the men in town, he scrambled to his feet and locked himself in the bathroom until Michaela got home from work.

Next up: what becomes of Gen 2?
